Dining Out: Real Thai in NY

Last night cubes and I caught a train for Midtown from Hewlett for a real Thai dinner with two of his cousins. We ate at Pam Real Thai on 404 West 49th street. Now when the dinner was scheduled, the cousins didn't know I LOVE Thai food. If you've been following this blog you'll know I love Thai food.

Dylan and cubes both ordered appetizers Steamed Fried Chive Dumpling and Fried Curry Puffs, respectively. Dylan encouraged my photographing of the food so I snapped away!

I went for my two test meals: Tom Yum with chicken soup and Beef salad. The soup was one star spicy and the salad two star. (I took photos of everything and will share as soon as I get back in front of my computer.)

The salad did not disappoint. The balance of sour lime with sweet mint and heat with cool cucumber was perfect. I love dressing and there was plenty. I've seen presentations of a drier dressing on the beef and lettuce with more dressing on the side (which I immediately pour all of onto my food) so the amount was good for me - all the beef was coated.

The soup was also well balanced. Too often Tom Yum soups are overwhelmingly sweet, not the case here. The cilantro on top was nice and fresh no wilted or yellowed edges. The only quibble I had with the soup was that the chicken was a little dry which tends to happen at restaurants as the soup is made fresh in the morning and then simmers all day.

Everyone enjoyed the evening. Good food. Engaging conversation. Great people.
